YouTube Thumbnail & Title Preview

See your thumbnail and title the way viewers will: in the home feed, on a phone, in search results and in the "Up next" column, in light or dark mode — right next to real videos from your niche.

2. Competitor videos (optional, up to 5)

Your video is outlined with a dashed line. Layouts are simplified approximations of YouTube's interface; real sizes vary by device and change over time.

Why preview a thumbnail in context?

A thumbnail that looks great on its own can disappear in a real feed. Viewers never see it alone: they see it next to five or more other videos, usually on a phone, often in dark mode. Previewing it in context answers the questions that matter before you publish:

    • Does it stand out from the videos around it, or does it use the same colors and composition as everything else in your niche?
    • Is it readable in the "Up next" column, where thumbnails are only about 168 pixels wide?
    • Does the title fit, or is the important part cut off after two lines?
    • Does it work in both light and dark mode?

    How to use it

    1. Add your thumbnail by dropping the image file (it stays on your device), or load a published video by its link.
    2. Type your title and channel name. The counter shows the title length; YouTube allows 100 characters but often shows far fewer.
    3. Add competitor videos — for example the top search results for your topic — to see how yours compares.
    4. Switch layouts and themes, and shuffle your position to see it at the start, middle and end of the row.

If you're choosing between several designs, preview each one here first, then test the two strongest on YouTube with Test & Compare. For measurable checks like contrast and clutter, use the Thumbnail Analyzer.

    Privacy

Your thumbnail file is displayed with a temporary local link and never leaves your device. Competitor thumbnails and titles are loaded directly from YouTube (via its public image server and oEmbed service). Your title, channel name and competitor list are remembered in your browser's local storage so they're still there next time; clear your browser's site data to remove them.

    Frequently asked questions

Are these the exact sizes YouTube uses?

They're close approximations based on common desktop and mobile layouts. YouTube adjusts its design regularly and sizes depend on screen width, so treat the preview as a realistic check, not a pixel-perfect copy.

Why don't competitor videos show view counts?

We only use YouTube's public oEmbed data (title and channel), which doesn't include view counts. That keeps the tool simple and avoids scraping YouTube.

    Can I preview Shorts?

This tool focuses on regular 16:9 thumbnails. Shorts are mostly seen in the vertical Shorts feed, where the opening frame matters more than the thumbnail.
